What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by the benign enlargement of male breast tissue, resulting in an increase in breast size. This enlargement can affect one or both breasts and may be uneven. Gynecomastia is often associated with tenderness, sensitivity, or swelling in the affected areas. It can be caused by hormonal imbalances, weight gain, certain medications, or underlying health conditions. While gynecomastia is generally not a serious health risk, it can lead to emotional distress and impact self-esteem, making it important for individuals experiencing symptoms to seek appropriate evaluation and management.
Treatment of Gynecomastia
In more serious cases of gynecomastia, especially when caused by serious health issues such as cancer, surgery or other extreme treatments may be necessary. In those cases, we will refer you to a specialist. At Vital Clinic & Spa, we offer treatment options designed to address mild to medium cases of gynecomastia and help you achieve a flatter, more masculine chest contour. Our approach is tailored to your specific needs and may include:
- Hormonal Therapy
In cases where gynecomastia is caused by a hormonal imbalance, hormonal therapy may be an option. This treatment involves the use of medications to adjust hormone levels and reduce breast tissue.
Downtime: Minimal to no downtime is typically required.
Post-Treatment Care: Regular monitoring and follow-up with your healthcare provider to ensure hormone levels are balanced.

Morpheus8 is a non-surgical treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy to target and tighten skin, as well as reduce excess fat. This advanced technology is effective for clients with mild to moderate gynecomastia who prefer a non-invasive approach.
Downtime: Minimal downtime, with most clients able to return to normal activities within a day or two.
Post-Treatment Care: Follow your provider’s instructions on moisturizing and avoiding sun exposure. Results continue to improve over several weeks as the body naturally eliminates the treated fat cells and tightens the skin.

What Causes Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
- Hormonal Imbalance
Gynecomastia often results from an imbalance between estrogen and testosterone. Estrogen promotes the growth of breast tissue, while testosterone inhibits it. When this balance is disrupted, either naturally or due to external factors, it can lead to the development of gynecomastia. This can happen naturally during puberty or aging or due to medical conditions affecting hormone levels, such as hypogonadism or hyperthyroidism. - Weight Gain
Excessive weight can lead to an increase in body fat, which may cause the body to produce more estrogen, the hormone responsible for breast tissue growth. This hormonal shift can result in the development of enlarged breast tissue in men. Additionally, fat accumulation in the chest area can mimic the appearance of gynecomastia, making the condition more noticeable. - Medications
Certain medications can contribute to the development of gynecomastia by altering hormonal levels or causing other imbalances in the body. For example, anabolic steroids used to enhance muscle mass can increase estrogen levels. Anti-androgens, which are used to treat conditions like prostate enlargement, can also impact hormone balance. Some antidepressants, particularly those affecting serotonin levels, may have side effects that include gynecomastia. Additionally, medications for heart conditions, ulcers, and even some antibiotics can interfere with normal hormonal function, potentially leading to gynecomastia. - Substance Use
Substance use, including alcohol, marijuana, and certain recreational drugs, can increase the risk of developing gynecomastia. Alcohol can disrupt hormonal balance by affecting the liver’s ability to metabolize estrogen, and marijuana use has been linked to altered levels of testosterone and estrogen. Certain illicit drugs may also impact hormonal regulation or contribute to conditions that exacerbate gynecomastia. - Health Conditions
Various health conditions can contribute to the development of gynecomastia by impacting hormonal balance or overall body function. Liver diseases, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis, can lead to increased estrogen levels due to impaired liver function. Kidney failure can cause hormonal imbalances that contribute to gynecomastia. Hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid, can also disrupt normal hormone levels and contribute to breast tissue growth. - Cancer
Certain types of cancer can cause gynecomastia by disrupting the hormonal balance in the body. Tumors affecting the testes, adrenal glands, or pituitary gland can lead to increased production of estrogen or other hormones that stimulate breast tissue growth. Testicular cancer, in particular, can cause hormonal imbalances that result in gynecomastia. While cancer-related gynecomastia is less common, it is important for individuals with gynecomastia to be evaluated for underlying health issues to determine the appropriate course of action.

Outstanding customer service is a rare commodity now and days. When it is encountered, it should be acknowledged. I would like to single out Meena at Vital Clinic and Spa as such an example. She proved on several occasions the level of dedication and integrity that we could only hope to be fortunate to encounter once in a while. I found that Vital fosters this level of dedication within their group. I am glad to be one of their patients.

I took my teen daughter to Vital Clinic and Spa to get a facial and Jennifer was amazing. My daughter really enjoyed the experience and immediately felt her face smoother right after. We were both very pleased with the results. Jennifer did a great job and went above and beyond by providing tips on how to properly clean and take care of your face. We look forward in visiting again. Thank you for the great service Jennifer!
